The worst thing I've ever seen in my life

I was at the X-Games filming yesterday...

And this happened.

It was by far the worst thing I've seen in my life...

When he hit the flat bottom I felt so sick, like I was about to throw up. I was pretty sure he died. It might sound dramatic, but that was my thoughts at the time.

I was shocked for a while afterwards. Like walking around in a coma for the next two hours... it was horrible to watch.

The fact that Bob Burnquist (douche) dropped in 5 min later and stole the gold from Jake was THE WORST think he could have done in my eyes. I thought Bob was a cool guy, but that was not good sportsmanship. He was sitting pretty in 2nd and Jake had gold, somthing that would have made Jake's career. But no, Bob had to one up him. 5 min after Jake almost died...
And like that wasn't enough... Bob then layed down and prayed or some shit for like 5 min until he got the official result that he won before he walke dover to see Jake, who was like 100 feet away.

I hope to never ever see competitiveness like that in skate or snowboarding again.

Bob - What were you thinking?

Jake - I'm glad you are alive.

That was insane... I'm really amazed that he walked away from that. When I try to tell people that haven't seen it what happened they think I'm talking out of my ass. No one should be able to take a fall like that and walk away from it... no one.

Go JAKE FUCKING BROWN!

um, they guy was fine. what kind of mentality is it to not go out and do your best? its not Bobs fault. you have a weird outlook on things.

He is fine now. But when it went down a lot of us thought he was done.

I never said it was Bob´s "fault". I just can´t relate to how he was thinking / acted.
I just doubt that anyone else would have acted like Bob did.
Most skaters wouldn´t wait for medical to move him off the ramp so you could drop in and do your run and go for gold. And even if anyone would have done that why would you lay down in a praying position for 5 min instead of going over to your buddy who just had the best day of his mega ramp career (until he almost died and got moved down to silver)?

Like Bob needed that gold... It would have made Jake´s day (and careeer) if he would have been awarded the gold.

To quote you :
"what kind of mentality is it to not go out and do your best?"

The mentality that you don´t always have to win. I know that´s can be hard for americans (generalizing) to understand. But that´s how I was raised. The precipitation and enjoyment you get out of it has always been more important to me.

And sure.., if Jake would have had a "normal" fall and walked away from it 2 sec later I can see how you´d still want to go for gold and do you best.
But when he was knocked out cold and didn´t speak or move for minutes...? And after the biggest slam in televised skateboarding (maybe even ever).. do you really need to win?

I guess so... But I rather not see that in the sports I love as much as skate/snowboarding.

If you (ip 24.17.254) think I have a weird outlook on things that´s cool.

We all have our own outlook on things. I for example disagree with the 62,040,606 americans who voted for the idiot who´s running the free world, for example.

But this is skateboarding, only skateboarding. Not Tour De France.

so you're saying if jake hadnt fell and bob took gold it would have been wrong for him to do so? during other competitions, when competitors get hurt, you dont see the rest of the field back off and let that person have their place in the standings...no they compete just like normal. jake had an amazing run with the 720 and fell, simple as that. the extent of the fall should provide no bearing on the outcome, especially due to the fact the guy walked away from it. youre saying there is a sort of gray area during competition, sort of like if/then statements. it was a competition, nothing more nothing less. what you are insinuating is that it was wrong for bob to win, am i correct? you mention it would have made his career, it might have but he is a young guy with many more competitions ahead of him. basically, you're saying bob should have let him win because he was in first. thats like a pitcher throwing fast balls down the middle to barry bonds just so he can break the home run record. Im sure jake would have wanted to win the gold on the terms of him actually winning it, not it being "given" to him by a laid-up bob. i can imagine my sentiment if the medal would have been presented to me, "here you go, your gold medal, bob burnquist laid up so you could win because you fell"... gee thanks for the unearned medal.

Sounds like a douchebag move to me..Stuntboarding sucks.

No, I´m saying if Jake wouldn´t have fallen, or made a minor slam it would have been totally ok for Bob to go for gold.

But when you don´t even know if he´s ok and the sheer fact that you just saw the biggest slam in skateboarding and Jake not moving for three minutes should be enough you not go for gold at that time.

I mean I felt so sick when I saw this go down I packed up my camera and walked away. How Bob in that moment could stay so competitive ad then drop in and make that run is beyond me.

You say "when the guy walked away from it". Sure he did, after minutes of not moving. Only the most competirive jock would consider taking their run after that. Especially when you have a silver medal.

Jake is NOT a young guy. He´s two or three years older than Bob. And for all we knew at that time his career could have been over.

I can´t relate to the baseball thing you were talking about, never seen a game.

Bob woldn´t have had to "lay up". Bob had already had an amazing run, probably one of his best in his life. To outdo yourself again after Jake´s fall takes an attitude I don´t care for.

The scenario with Jake being paralized and Bob with a gold medal is something to think about.

Bob would have dropped in even if Jake was taken out on a strecher.

If you don´t think that is weak I don´t know what´s going on in your world.

Who cares. The fact that you all are making any deal out of this is kind of lame and silly. There are more tragic things going on in the world than whether or not some over paid skater falls down.

Oh I forgot.

Someone just told me that Bob´s last run was a bonus one. He had already taken his three runs, but complained about noise and wanted a fourth one. So that fourth one was the one who got him gold.

If this is true I don´t know what to say...

Complain about noise? Come on, it´s the same for everyone.

Well, I´m not sure this is the case, but it it is I might cry a little bit.

Yes there are more important things then debating this.

But it´s my blog and it bothered me and I wrote about it.

And Jake is NOT overpaid. And he could have been dead. Death is serious.

that is true about bobs run, officials deemed the motorcycles distracting and granted him another run.
i totally see your point and where you are coming from. our opinions differ, thats fine.

I would have to agree with you Pierre. I suppose alot of people don't see things the way you do. In which that is fine. Although I would say that someones well being and the value of life is far more important then winning a comp. I don't think that your view is simply that Bob wanted to win rather that maybe he didn't show that much concern for is fellow skater.
It's sad in my opinion.

Hey pierre, i just wanna say that i totally feel you, the almost same happened to me when i was filming at the arctic challenge two years ago, the dutch guy fell straight to his face from 12m, and broke his cheek and some ribs. i also almost puked, it's just so horrible to testify some of worst slams ever.
well, hope jake recovers and bob gets run by a bus or something.
