At least Shaun White isn´t that good at street skating.

I mean, he can skate vert and snowboard better than almost anyone but street skating looks to be a little tougher for him :)

Some company called Fast Company who does who knows what (I didn´t bother Googling) did this shoot with Shaun (assuming Red Bull was involved too) in NYC earlier this year.

I´ve missed out on watching some of the recent snowboard videos. Stack Footy being one of them. But thanks to Todd´s opinion on the state of shred videos I Googled around and found this one with Scott Stevens. I really liked it.

Girl skate video, not the brand, actuals girls.

I never understood why girls are so much worse than guys at snow/skateboarding and that´s a completely different subject for some other time.

But what I do understand is that girls also likes to skate.
In this clip you´ll see some Swedish girls (beginners) having a good time at a three day camp.
The reason I´m posting this (cause some might think it´s pretty left field for being a Pierre post) is because I really liked the clip. Sure the staged shots might be a little much, but the filmer is very good at what he does and I´m assuming that he´s sorta new to the industry. The production value/feel of the clip is pretty high, for what this is. The motion graphics are great too.
Another reason why I´m posting this is that I really enjoy watching beginners skate. It´s so pure. Takes me back to how it was for me those first weeks of pushing around.

Some say love hurts, which can be true, but skateboarding can hurt too.

What he does at 1:40 is amazing, skilled fall.

Euro snowboard commercial.

I had to google what Zimtstern was. I´ve seen their logo around for years but since I it has a German tone to it and I never seen it on anything else than banners and stickers I never paid attention to what it was...

Anywho.. they make clothing.

And they just did this commercial with ex K2 pro Marco Lutz (he was pro in the mid-late 90´s, long before Gretchen could do a backflip, I mean "crippler").
Marco has also made some really good films over in Europe that no kid in Mammoth or Utah has seen. And I mean REALLY good stuff. Some of his individual shots in his past movies were so good I almost got depressed (this was around 2002-2004 when I actually cared to use dollies and get contrived beauty shots).
His filmer Ralph was (and probably still is) possibly the best filmer in snowboard cinema. Pitty those movies never got shown in the US. Marco´s does claim, on his website, that he sold 42,000 units of his 2003 movie Kingsize which is a very impressive number.

I must add that the commercial slightly resembles this one from Girl Skateboards.

It was a great series. Spike Jonze even flew in for a few days.

This last clip really shows them having a fun time. Not contrived, just camping and skating.

Fucking music industry.

Here we go again... music rights for snowboard videos..

I´m editing some clips and obviously need some nice tunes to go with the footage. But this is such a fucking headache.
It´s always been like this too. Mostly the labels/publishers want too much money or they aren´t into it.

When I grew up, most of my friends only listened to music we found in skate/snowboard videos. Even in recent history I must say that whatever we used in the Robot Food movies, or what was in the other videos, Forum, Mack Dawg, Absinthe etc end up in A LOT of peoples ipods. Why wouldn´t the labels/publishers want hundred of thousands of people (who happen to snowboard) between 12-35 to hear their music? I don´t get it.

The artists on the other hand are usually more into participating and over the years I´ve had to post quicktimes online for them to watch and personally approve (David Lynch, Iron Maiden, Weezer etc).
I respect that the musicians are protective of their music and would want to see what their work is used for. But then there are the labels/publishers... omfg...

Here´s an email I got today from a smaller band that I´ve been keen on using for over a year:
Hey Pierre
Mr "-X-" Just got back to me regarding the "-X- band". He said I will have to get licenses from four different labels in order to license the track for world (which we need), and he doesn’t think the labels will find the fee offered worth the paperwork.

New Protest commercial I filmed.

My good friend Vincent Skoglund got the opportunity to direct a commercial for Protest.

I filmed it, and Vince´s office mate Samuel put it together.

It´s obviously very artsy.

Vince is also snowboarding in it. Very Hitchcock-ish.

I like Weezer.

I also like MGMT, but putting them together..? I don´t know.

Can´t help to feel that Rivers Cuomo is joking with his audience in this clip where he sings Kids by MGMT and Poker Face by Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga´s Poker Face song makes me thing of a small night club at 1am in a small Swedish town. I can´t believe she made that song popular world wide. Too me it´s sucha small town plague song.
